Description of Riedel Black Cornetto Decanter
The Riedel Black Cornetto, inspired by its clear Cornetto counterpart, is an elegant mouth-blown crystal decanter, in which one 750-milliliter bottle fills only the bottom third; a truly stunning piece. The 11th generation, Maximilian Riedel, was inspired by the elegance of swans swimming in a pond outside the window at Aureole in Las Vegas, and he decided to interpret the image in crystal. When searching for a name, he was struck by the similarity between the decanter's shape and a hunter's small horn that he had seen in Piedmont and so named it Cornetto, Italian for small horn. In addition to its beauty, the decanter is extremely functional: its elongated neck allows wine to be easily poured, even from across the dinner table, and promotes extra aeration as the wine travels to the glass, and its slanted cut rim allows for easy pouring.The simple, modern shape of Riedel's Cornetto decanter was inspired by both the graceful curve of a swan's neck and the alpine hunter's horn known as the cornetto. Made in a clear version as well, the crystal decanter here is opaque black, which serves two purposes: the black strikes a contemporary design note that adds boldness to a table setting; and it masks the color and clarity of the wine within, allowing a host to amuse guests with a double-blind test, with the addition of opaque black wine glasses. (Surprisingly, many oenophiles can't tell a white from a red by taste alone.) Mouth-blown of leaded crystal by master European glassblowers, the Cornetto decanter aerates an entire standard-size bottle of wine with its 42-3/8-ounce full capacity and 12-3/4-inch height. The slanted rim makes pouring precise.
A superb gift for a wine connoisseur, the Cornetto decanter allows either a young or old wine to fully develop before drinking. A magnum size of the opaque black version is also available.
